House of former artist Gerard Schaperkotter

This historic Dutch building, originally designed in the 20th century as an artist’s studio, now serves as a warm and inviting home for a family with two children. The design concept centered on preserving the building’s unique architectural character while transforming it into a comfortable, functional living space. The centerpiece of the transformation was converting the former Orangerie into a bright, modern kitchen-dining area, seamlessly blending functionality with the building's historic charm.

Throughout the home, the interior was thoughtfully built around a remarkable collection of works by the previous owner, artist Gerard Schaperkotter. Carefully curated by Anna Agapova, this collection infuses the space with a profound artistic legacy, connecting past and present in a truly meaningful way.

The interiors are rooted in Dutch minimalism, reflecting the understated elegance of the home’s original purpose. The previous occupant, artist Gerard Schaperkotter, left behind a legacy of creativity and inspiration, with his artwork influencing the design vision. Anna together with clients acquired several of the artist’s works through auctions. The goal was to design the interiors as the perfect backdrop to showcase these pieces, allowing them to harmonise beautifully with and enhance the space.
